Arsenal knock back Sheffield United bid for Folarin Balogun amid claims of hefty price-tag

Speculation in the English media on Tuesday suggests that Sheffield United have seen an opening offer for Folarin Balogun rejected by Arsenal.

Gunners starlet

19-year-old attacker Balogun has long been viewed as one of the most promising young talents on Arsenal’s books.

The New York native is a product of the north Londoners’ youth system, with his goalscoring exploits over recent seasons having begun to catch the eye.

As per, Balogun notched a goal every 62 minutes with Arsenal’s U18s in 2018/19, a key factor in the club’s title win.

This was followed by a further 10 goals and 4 assists across 15 appearances in the Premier League 2 last season.

Arsenal stand firm

Such impressive form, in turn, has unsurprisingly seen Balogun tipped for a bright future at the Emirates.

Suggestions had even circulated that the teenage hitman was on track to be introduced to Mikel Arteta’s first-team setup over the course of the campaign ahead.

This, however, all came prior to word arriving that Balogun in fact looks set to move on this summer.

Arsenal’s latest attempts to tie the English youth international down to a new contract back in June saw an impasse reached.

As such, with Balogun’s current deal in north London set to expire next summer, the board at the Emirates are said to have come to the decision to attempt to move him on now, rather than risk losing such a talented prospect for nothing in a year’s time.

And, as outlined above, an update on the situation has today been forthcoming.

As per a report from the Daily Mail, an offer for Balogun has been forthcoming on the part of one of Arsenal’s Premier League rivals.

The outfit in question? Sheffield United.

It is claimed that the Blades tabled a proposal worth around £3 million for the young attacker.

The Emirates transfer chiefs rejected the offer out of hand, however, with Sheffield United said to have been left ‘stunned’ by the Gunners’ demands.

Despite Balogun’s contract situation, and the fact that he is yet to garner a single senior appearance, Arsenal are said to want £15 million for their academy product, comprised of an initial fee, followed by a host of bonuses.

This hefty price-tag, in turn, has increased the likelihood that Balogun will end up moving abroad, with the Bundesliga cited as one potential landing spot.
