Arsenal have reportedly increased their offer to Gabriel

Several fresh updates concerning Lille defender Gabriel’s future have emerged over the last 24 hours.

Man United join hunt for Gabriel

Gabriel has enjoyed a superb last 18 months or so on Lille’s books, helping the club to secure European football in the last two seasons.

However, the Brazilian’s time in France looks set to come to an imminent end.

Lille president Gerard Lopez recently confirmed that the centre-back is set to leave the club this summer, with Arsenal and Napoli having been viewed as the two outfits closest to the 22-year-old’s signature.

Arsenal are believed to have seen a bid in the region of £22.6m accepted by Lille, with it subsequently claimed on Thursday that the centre-half had also agreed a five-year deal with the Gunners.

As such, Gabriel’s arrival at the Emirates looked nailed on.

However, a spanner was quickly thrown in the works, when transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio revealed that Manchester United had re-entered the race for the Lille star.

Arsenal make fresh Gabriel offer

With Man United of course boasting the allure of Champions League football, Arsenal’s fans were therefore likely concerned that their deal for Gabriel was in jeopardy.

However, subsequent updates from several top journalists should reassure the Gunners faithful that Gabriel will in fact be joining their club in the near future.

First, Di Marzio confirmed that Mikel Arteta’s side are ‘closer’ to signing the Lille defender, who will accept the north Londoners’ offer if United do not raise their own proposal.

Then, the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano revealed that Arsenal have increased their offer to Gabriel, with the club’s board now feeling ‘confident’.

Crucially, it is also added that Man United have not yet made direct contact with Lille.
