Arda to Arsenal?
Arda Turan’s future is the front cover story in Sport today.
The Barcelona-based paper say that the Turk has several ‘girlfriends’ (a Spanish football term for suitors), and that he could be set to leave the Camp Nou this summer.
According to Sport, Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Fenerbahce are all interested in signing the Turkish midfielder, who had a difficult debut season at Barcelona.
He wants to stay
Despite being aware of the interest from other clubs, Sport say that Arda wants to stay at Barcelona and fight for a regular place.
Having moved from Atletico Madrid last summer, he was only allowed to make his debut in January 2016 due to Barcelona’s transfer ban, but he failed to convince Luis Enrique that he was worthy of a regular place in the team, and had to content himself with a substitute’s role.
And it’s hard to see him breaking into the team given the eternal form of Busquets, Rakitic and Iniesta…
Even after a disappointing Euro 2016 campaign, Arda would surely still walk into the Arsenal first XI, but you can’t fault him for ambition if he wants to stay at the La Liga champions.
