Arsenal v Barcelona
A story has popped up overnight claiming that Arsenal are in the running for a new left-back.
The rumour has appeared in a Brazilian publication called Hoje em Dia.
The player at the centre of the story is Brazilian left-back Douglas Santos, who plays for Atletico Mineiro.
Douglas Santos is 22-years-old, who has recently been called up for the Brazil squad, even though he failed to get on the pitch during the Copa America.
Interestingly, Douglas Santos has already had a taste of life as a footballer in Europe, as he played for Granada and Udinese previously, but the Brazilian struggled in both Spain and Italy, failing to make the grade at either club.
Now, however, it’s being claimed his the focus of attentions for Barcelona and Arsenal.
The race for Douglas Santos
According to Hoje em Dia, Arsenal, along with Valencia, have officially contacted Atletico Mineiro about the availability of the defender.
As for Barcelona, they’ve sent director Raúl Sanllehí to Brazil this summer for three main reasons: (1) to scout Gabriel Jesus of Palmeiras, (2) to discuss Neymar’s future and (3) to check out Douglas Santos.
While the report stops short of claiming any bid for Douglas Costa has been posted, the defender is said to cost around 10 million euros.
