Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette a ‘summer target’ for AS Monaco

Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette a ‘summer target’ for AS Monaco

A report from England on Friday has credited French outfit AS Monaco with an interest in Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette.

Lacazette & Arsenal

As we head towards the summer window, Arsenal have a big decision to make on the future of the Frenchman.

Lacazette joined the Gunners from Lyon in 2017 and has since endured a mixed spell in England.

This season has seen the forward score 10 and assist three in 29 outings across all competitions.

But Lacazette will be 30 in May and his current contract only runs until 2022.

So, if Arsenal do want to recoup some money from him, their best option will probably be to sell him in the upcoming transfer window.

The alternative would be to hand him a new deal to ensure he maintains some transfer value. But the north Londoners do have a history of handing out contracts to ageing stars they probably shouldn’t – Mesut Ozil and Willian being the most obvious examples.

Monaco linked with Arsenal

When drawn on the Frenchman’s future back in January, Mikel Arteta claimed they will wait until the summer before discussing his contract:

“No, we haven’t talked about anything related to his contract. We will talk in the summer and make a decision on what is going to happen.

“I’m delighted with the way he’s performing, the goals he’s scoring and the form and energy he’s got at the moment, so he needs to keep doing that.”

But given his age and lack of consistency throughout his stint at the Emirates, perhaps Arsenal would indeed be better served cashing in on Lacazette this year.

And, as mentioned above, it appears the former Lyon man has at least one club showing an interest in him.

According to the Mirror, AS Monaco have made the Arsenal forward a summer target. No potential fee is mentioned in the report, but surely the best thing for Arsenal to do would to sell now, rather than losing him for free or handing him a contract as he enters his 30s.
