Arsenal eyeing Tariq Lamptey alternatives as Hector Bellerin inches closer to exit

Arsenal eyeing Tariq Lamptey alternatives as Hector Bellerin inches closer to exit

An update on Arsenal’s hunt for a replacement for Hector Bellerin has been forthcoming over the last 24 hours.

PSG bound?

Questions surrounding the future of long-time Gunners star Bellerin have of course taken centre stage in the media of late.

This comes for a number of reasons.

First, it was revealed by the reliable James Benge – citing sources close to the player – that Bellerin is ‘ready to part ways’ with Arsenal this summer, in search of a new challenge.

French champions PSG – who also expressed an interest in the stopper last summer – in turn, are said to be ready to reignite their pursuit.

The emergence of such claims, meanwhile, have directly coincided with Bellerin falling out of favour under Mikel Arteta.

The Arsenal boss has often opted to utilise Cedric Soares over his fellow countryman of late, as Bellerin, when handed the chance to impress, continues to come under heavy scrutiny.

Lamptey a no-go

As such, if, when all is said and done, Arsenal do indeed opt to move forward without their Spanish international star, reinforcements will be required.

Whilst Cedric has done an impressive job in Bellerin’s place of late, the ex-Southampton man was, at the end of the day, signed as a free agent, and is therefore unlikely to be viewed as worthy of first-choice status over the seasons ahead.

In turn, the Gunners are expected to target a player capable of filling the right side of the club’s backline for the best part of the coming decade.

And, as outlined above, an insight into the situation at the Emirates, as things stand, has today been forthcoming.

The info comes courtesy of transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who confirms that Arsenal will indeed ‘go for a new right-back’.

Brighton star Tariq Lamptey, once viewed as a frontrunner to make the move to north London, however, now appears something of a long shot to link up with Arteta’s squad.

Instead, the Gunners are looking for ‘a different right-back’, amid fresh links to Inter Milan standout Achraf Hakimi.
