Arsenal & Domagoj Vida
Could Arsenal sign Croatian centre-half Domagoj Vida before the transfer window shuts on Thursday?
Previously, Vida has also been linked with Liverpool as his stock mushroomed this summer. Vida was superb as Croatia reached the World Cup final.
Gunners have five centre-backs
It’s worth noting that Arsenal start the season with five centre-halves in their squad.
But there are question-marks over each of Unai Emery’s possible options.
Laurent Koscielny is still on the comeback trail following his Achilles injury which forced him out of the World Cup.
The other options are Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Konstantinos Mavropanos or Rob Holding.
Arsenal & Besiktas
Starting in the Times, the broadsheet confirms that Arsenal are interested in Vida:
Unai Emery has explored the possibility of Domagoj Vida, the Croatia defender at Besiktas, but he will not be cheap and the new head coach must raise funds before he can add to the £70 million he has committed.
Then we turn to the updates in the Turkish press on Tuesday morning.
For the record, many often take updates from Turkey with a large pinch of salt. It’s often unclear how much credibility should be given to such Turkish updates.
That said, Sabah, one of the most well-read Turkish papers, claims that Besiktas’s president and two of their officials are expected in the UK soon to negotiate Vida’s exit.
Aksam, another Turkish daily, have reported that the first round of talks between the Arsenal and Besiktas ended without any agreement over Vida.
Arsenal reportedly offered a player plus cash deal but Besiktas rejected that proposal. The Turks are looking for a €20 million offer plus bonuses, according to Aksam.
