Third Arsenal midfielder set for Emirates exit as changes under Mikel Arteta continue

Third Arsenal midfielder set for Emirates exit as changes under Mikel Arteta continue

Lucas Torreira nearing Arsenal exit

The marriage between Arsenal and Uruguayan international Lucas Torreira could finally be set for a permanent annulment after reports in Italy surfaced stating that both the player and current club Fiorentina are hopeful of a permanent move to Firenze.

As mentioned by Get Italian Football News citing Italian-based outlet FirenzeViola, “the agent of midfielder Lucas Torriera recently talked to Fiorentina about the idea of the La Viola signing him permanently soon.”

The report mentions how pleased Fiorentina is with the contributions of the former Sampdoria holding midfielder after the 25-year-old is clearly deemed surplus to requirements at the Emirates under Mikel Arteta.

Torreira started his Arsenal stint brightly under former headmaster Unai Emery back in the summer of 2018 in the first half of the season that saw him arguably become the clubs best performer, but since then has failed to make good on his initial 6-months in north London while plummeting down the pecking order at the Emirates.

Now in his second loan stint away from the club, the summer signing of Sambi Lokonga from RSC Anderlecht and the rehabilitation of Ainsley Maitland-Niles in midfield all but rule out any future for the Fray Bentos-born midfielder, and a return to greener pastures in Serie A looks likely.

Guendouzi and Elneny also nearing an Emirates exit

While many Arsenal fans may not bemoan a move away from the club for Lucas Torreira, many will lament Matteo Guendouzi not working out at the Emirates under Mikel Arteta.

The newly capped full French international recently made plain his intentions to push for a permanent move to Olympique de Marseille in the midst of his form across this season during his loan spell at the Orange Vélodrome that has netted him the confidence of Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps.

Additionally, Arsenal could also be set to part ways with Mohamed Elneny as well after claims from his agent William D’Avila that he has his heart set on a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray as soon as the January window.

Should all three players head out of the exit doors, that would leave Arsenal with just four first-team players capable of being deployed in the middle of the park, but given the urge for Mikel Arteta to continue to shape the squad in his image, that may be no bad thing.
