Is Eden Hazard set to leave Chelsea this summer?
Eden Hazard was not shy about what he thought of Antonio Conte’s tactics as Chelsea lost at Manchester City on Sunday.
And, less than two days later there are reports in both the Times and the Telegraph that Eden Hazard could well be on his way to Real Madrid.
The future of Eden Hazard has been a much talked about subject for some time, with the Belgian star out of contract come the end of the 2019/2020 season.
We are already at the stage where Chelsea could look to offload Hazard if they cannot agree a new deal with their best attacking player.
Hazard slates Antonio Conte’s Chelsea’s tactics at Manchester City
After the 1-0 defeat at champions-elect Manchester City, there has been much criticism for how Chelsea played.
Especially, their “walking football” even when 1-0 down and looking for a way back into the game.
Arguably though, Hazard has been more savage than even the high profile Sky Sports pundits.
“We could have played on for three hours!”
When you leave the pitch you have the impression that you’ve ran [a lot], but that you haven’t played a game of football. That’s a pity.
We could have played on for three hours, and I [still] wouldn’t touch a ball.
It went a bit better only at the end: in the last 10-15 minutes we had more possession. But we should have tried to do that all game.
I tried to jump [for long balls] but against [Nicolas] Otamendi and [Aymeric] Laporte it is not easy.
It was difficult. Against Barcelona we had at least a few chances. In that game we could have scored. Today we didn’t create any. It was complicated.
Will Eden Hazard leave Chelsea?
According to The Times on Tuesday: “Eden Hazard will consider his future at Chelsea in the summer after becoming annoyed by Antonio Conte’s tactics. He is one of a number of players tiring of what they perceive to be negativity from the head coach and who are concerned that his conflict with the club board is undermining their season.”
Perhaps most worrying of all for Chelsea fans is that many of the Blues squad reportedly share Hazard’s feelings about Conte’s tactics.
There is even the suggestion that the Manchester City game was used by Conte as a “training exercise” to prepare for Barcelona away in the Champions League.
Hazard is keen for Real Madrid to make a move
The Times add: “The 27-year-old’s feelings are particularly sensitive for Chelsea as he is stalling over a signing a new contract. Hazard will weigh up his options in the close season and is keen to see if Real Madrid make a move for him. He is interested in talking to them about a possible transfer.”
Hazard has long been linked with Real Madrid and has publicly expressed his admiration for Zinedine Zidane.
Of course, it cannot be ruled out that Chelsea will sack Antonio Conte in the coming months and then bring in someone who Hazard will enjoy playing under…
