Stoke 1 – Arsenal 0
Arsenal’s second game of the Premier League season ended in defeat and Gooners everywhere are starting to fret.
The Gunners beat Leicester 4-3 in their opening game of the Premier League campaign, in a helter skelter match.
On Saturday, Arsenal were unlucky to lose to a Jese Rodriguez goal. Since they looked to have scored a perfectly acceptable equaliser via Alexandre Lacazette.
Arsenal miss Alexis Sanchez
A number of pundits have wondered where Mesut Ozil was during the 1-0 defeat at Stoke.
The German playmaker once again went missing in a key Premier League game and there is little doubt that Alexis Sanchez was a major player the Gunners struggled without.
Sanchez has missed Arsenal’s opening two games of the 2017/2018 season and the Community Shield with a “side strain”.
After the Stoke game, Arsene Wenger confirmed that Sanchez would return next week against Liverpool, in the big Premier League game of the weekend.
Wenger: “If all goes well through the week, he should be available to be selected for the next game, yes.”
Will Alexis Sanchez stay at Arsenal for 2017/2018?
Whilst Sanchez remains injured, his name is never far from the transfer gossip columns.
Today, the Chilean superstar has been linked with Manchester City in the Sunday tabloids.
If anyone needed reminding, Sanchez has just one season left on his Arsenal contract and can agree terms with another club from January 2018.
There has been hope at Arsenal that Sanchez would stay and sign a new contract with the Gunners.
Is this why Alexis Sanchez was in Paris last weekend?
On Sunday, an Arsenal “ITK” has chipped in with some information that makes sense regarding Sanchez – see the Tweet below.
Essentially, Alexis Sanchez will not renew his Arsenal deal. Whilst he also won’t look for a transfer.
Sanchez will stay for one more season and secure an incredible move (personally, financially) next summer when he moves on a free transfer.
Perhaps that explains why Sanchez was in Paris last weekend…
Told club has been told Alexis not renewing but also wont ask for a transfer. Club still firm that they won't sell and goes free in June 1
