Ajax reportedly eyeing move for Crystal Palace’s Patrick van Aanholt

A report in the English media on Tuesday has linked Ajax with a move for Crystal Palace full-back, Patrick van Aanholt.

Van Aanholt’s Crystal Palace stint

The Dutchman made the move to Selhurst Park in January of 2017.

Palace are understood to have paid Sunderland just under £10m for van Aanholt’s services.

The former Chelsea man has since gone on to notch 115 appearances across all competitions for the Eagles, establishing himself as a mainstay in Roy Hodgson’s backline.

Across these outings, PVA has scored 14 and provided five assists.

The 30-year-old missed the start of the current campaign through injury, but since returning has slipped seamlessly back into Palace’s first-choice XI, featuring in their last four league outings.

Ajax eyeing Patrick van Aanholt

Despite van Aanholt’s integral presence in Roy Hodgson’s backline, however, his future at the club is somewhat up in the air as things stand.

This comes with the experienced defender’s contract set to expire in the summer of 20221.

As such, with no new deal seemingly in the pipeline, van Aanholt will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from the 1st of January, 2021.

And, as mentioned above, one such club has reportedly begun to express an interest in the stopper.

The outfit in question are Ajax, with Football Insider having claimed that:

Ajax are lining up a move for Crystal Palace star Patrick van Aanholt ahead of the January window

FI go on to state that van Aanholt is viewed as a potential replacement for Nicolas Tagliafico.

This comes on the back of  claims just last week that Palace’s contract talks with van Aanholt were ‘facing collapse’.
