Cristiano Ronaldo v Leo Messi v Neymar
There were no surprises when FIFA announced their three finalists for their 2017 Best award.
Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Barcelona’s Leo Messi and PSG’s Neymar are up for the prestigious award.
All the smart money is on Cristiano Ronaldo winning the top prize. That’s after the Portuguese star helped Real Madrid win the La Liga title again, while Los Blancos made history retaining the Champions League.
Francesco Totti: Ronaldo better than Messi
This week, Italian and Roma legend Francesco Totti has waded into the eternal Cristiano Ronaldo versus Leo Messi debate.
Totti has backed the Real Madrid striker, making the following statement:
We are talking about three footballing aliens.
I think that, in the end, Ronaldo is ahead of the others. He had an amazing season and also accomplished all of his goals with the most prestigious of teams.
Totti & Harry Kane
Totti was also on the mind of Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino before this week’s Champions League match between Spurs and Real Madrid.
Much of the pre-game chatter has focused on Harry Kane.
The narrative seems to be building that Kane, who has 43 goals in 2017 just like Cristiano Ronaldo, is good enough to play for Real Madrid.
When that question was posed to Pochettino, he compared Kane to Totti:
Harry was so emotional when he saw the last game of Totti, who had only played at one club.
He was very emotional and what I say is that maybe Harry can have the same career as Totti. When he saw Totti’s farewell at Roma, that creates extra motivation.
I hope he stays with us for a long time because he has great quality. He enjoys Tottenham and he probably identifies with the club more because he is from the academy.
