Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris

‘Tottenham’s Lloris isn’t better than Liverpool’s Mignolet’

Tottenham 1 – Chelsea 2

It’s a rough Monday for Tottenham.

Last season at White Hart Lane, Tottenham completed the whole season without losing.

In total Spurs recorded 17 wins and two draws at home in 2016-17.

However, after one match of the new campaign, Tottenham’s home record has gone. That’s after they fell 2-1 to Chelsea at Wembley.

Marcos Alonso was the star of the show as he scored twice for Chelsea to record their first win over the season.

Tony Cascarino on Tottenham

In Monday’s edition of the Times, pundit Tony Cascarino has gone after Tottenham goalie Hugo Lloris.

Lloris was at fault for Chelsea’s second goal on Sunday. The French international stopper was unable to get down low to stop Moscos Alonso scoring his second of the game.

That mistake has opened up an opportunity for Lloris to be slammed in the national press.

Despite the fact that Spurs have had the best defensive record in the past two Premier League campaigns, Cascarino believes Lloris is no better than Liverpool goalie Simon Mignolet.

Lloris is only ‘fifth best’

Courting hate from Tottenham fans, Cascarino made the following statements in his Times article:

I’m not convinced that Hugo Lloris is a Premier League-winning goalkeeper.

I think Lloris is close to Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet in terms of ability. I think he is about the fifth-best goalkeeper in the Premier League. If Tottenham had a better goalkeeper, I think they might have won the league already.

When it came to listing the top five goalies in the Premier League, Cascarino’s picks were as follows: Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, Man United’s David De Gea, Stoke’s Jack Butland, and then Liverpool’s Mignolet and Tottenham’s Lloris in joint fourth-fifth spots.
