Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris admits Liverpool & Man City are ‘the real’ title contenders

The race for top spot

Manchester City are the current holders of the Premier League, and are no doubt eyeing a third successive league title this campaign.

Liverpool came very close to beating the Citizens to the title this last season. But they lost out by a single point.

Two games into the new PL campaign, Liverpool have the upper hand on City, after Pep Guardiola’s side dropped points vs Tottenham.

However, there is obviously still a long way to go in the title race, with Jurgen Klopp’s side having had the easier fixtures so far. They have picked up wins vs Norwich and Southampton.

Lloris on the Premier League title contenders

Tottenham have had a pretty busy summer, for a change, bringing in three new first-team players.

Tanguy Ndombele has already had a solid impact, scoring one and assisting one in his opening two league outings.

And when Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso start getting regular minutes, they too should prove excellent additions.

After improving on an already solid squad, Spurs fans may be hoping to challenge City and Liverpool for the PL title this season.

However, while Hugo Lloris did state that Spurs are going to try and challenge for top spot, he also conceded that Liverpool and Man City are the real contenders:

“If you want to stay in contact with the best team in the Premier League, it’s important to get this feeling. There were some games that we lost [last term] that we should have drawn. We all know the difficulty of playing at City, so it’s a good feeling to build confidence.

“With humility, Liverpool and City are the real contenders.

“We’re going to try our best to challenge for top spot, but it’s difficult to find the consistency.

“We just need to try to use the experience of the last few years in the best way. And it’s about details — to not lose a game, especially a game you do not deserve to win. You draw, you take a point and it’s very good because your rivals share the point with you.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.
