AZ Alkmaar reject latest Spurs bid for Janssen

Earlier on Friday morning Dutch newspaper Telegraaf claimed Tottenham Hotspur had last night launched a third bid of €14m for AZ Alkmmar striker Vincent Janssen.

The Guardian have since published an update, claiming Alkmaar have rejected the bid and are holding out for €20m for their 22-year-old star.

Vincent Janssen was the Dutch Eredivisie’s top scorer this season after signing from Almere City in 2015 for only £400,000. His value has shot up after an incredible 12 months at AZ Alkmaar.

The club’s technical director, Max Huiberts, is quoted in The Guardian saying: “The difference between the offer and the asking price is too big. I hear a lot of rumours but nobody else has made an offer.”

Tottenham’s other attacking targets

Unhappy with the strength in depth of his attacking options, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino desperately wants to sign a striker to provide competition for star striker Harry Kane.

The club yesterday signed Southampton defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama but are also believed to be close to completing the signing of Roma forward Antonio Sanabria.

Competing in the Champions League this season, Tottenham need other options so Harry Kane can afford to be rested, having barely been missing from the starting XI since breaking in to the first team almost two years ago.
