Tottenham vs Man United: Mauricio Pochettino’s 20-year project

Mauricio Pochettino & Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have five wins from five matches since joining Man United, however rumours continue to swirl that Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino could be the new manager at Old Trafford at the start of next season.

Depending on which media outlet you read on Tuesday, some are suggesting that Pochettino dropped a hint this week regarding his Spurs future.

With the lure of Man United in the background, Pochettino has spoken about the need for Spurs to “operate in a different way”.

Speaking a day before the Carabao Cup semi-final with Chelsea, Pochettino said the following:

If we want to win the title, we need to operate in a different way.

At the moment we operate in the same way that we operate five years ago when I arrived.

The other day I saw a stat, in the last ten years in England and Europe, how the teams were spending money and I think we were on the bottom. Yes, in Europe, England and Europe.

Of course we are doing a fantastic job, but if we want to be real contenders we need to operate in a different way in the future.

Pochettino’s 20-year Tottenham project

For those who only paid attention to the above mentioned quotes, a case could be made that Pochettino was hinting at a possible move to Manchester United.

However the Argentine didn’t stop there.

In a possible boost for the Lillywhites, Pochettino also spoke about a possible 20-year project in north London:

I hope, or I wish to be here 20 years, and decide to leave or to finish my career here.

I am so focused here, and want to help the club to achieve what the club want to be in history.

It would be fantastic. I am so happy to be here. I am so happy to work in that pressure. Why not?
