Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund betting tips: Champions League match preview & predictions

Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund prediction: Tottenham 1-1 Borussia Dortmund

Spurs will be looking to replicate last season’s 3-1 home win over Dortmund but may find it difficult without the services of Harry Kane, who scored three times against Dortmund last season.

Dortmund have drawn three matches in a row while Spurs are currently on a three-match winning run.

A draw would be a great result for Dortmund to take back to the Westfalenstadion, where they have not lost a match all season.

Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund: Who will win?

Spurs are favourites at 27/20 while Dortmund are priced at 21/10. The draw is priced at 13/5.

Spurs have kept one clean sheet in their last seven matches while Dortmund have kept one in their last ten. Back both teams to score at 4/6.

Paco Alcacer is Dortmund’s joint-leading scorer this season with 12 goals. Alcacer is ruled out of this match, one of four key injuries for Dortmund.

Mario Gotze will start up front for Dortmund and is 7/1 to score first, and 11/5 to notch anytime.

Heung Min Son is in super form and has a fine record against Dortmund. The South Korean is 5/1 to score first and 6/4 to notch anytime.

Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund Champions League match preview

Tottenham Hotspur host German giants Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on Wednesday night.

After two wins, two draws and two defeats, Spurs progressed to the round of 16 as runners-up in Group B, behind Barcelona.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side ended level on points and goal difference with Inter Milan but went through on the head-to-head tiebreak.

Dortmund finished as winners of Group A, above Atletico Madrid, Club Brugge and Monaco. The highlight of their groups stage was their 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid.

Spurs come into the match on the back of three straight wins. Davinson Sanchez scored his first goal for the club in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Leicester City. Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min were also on the scoresheet. Son has now scored 10 goals in his last 11 Spurs appearances.

Borussia Dortmund: Top of the Bundesliga!

Lucien Favre’s side remain first in the Bundesliga despite their 3-3 draw with Hoffenheim on Saturday. Dortmund were 3-0 up but somehow conceded three in the final 15 minutes to draw the game.

It was Dortmund’s second 3-3 draw in the less than a week, following their DFB Pokal match against Werder Bremen – which they eventually lost on penalties.

Spurs did the double over Dortmund in last season’s group stage, 3-1 at Wembley and 2-1 at the Westfalenstadion. In all, the two sides have met on four previous occasions, with each winning two apiece.

The two sides meet again in the return leg in Germany on March 5, 2019.

The key duel? Vertonghen vs Sancho

One of the most fascinating angles of the first leg is the return to England and London for Jadon Sancho.

After moving from Manchester City, Sancho has been electric at Dortmund and has emerged as a potential world superstar.

Tottenham do not have a recognised left back with Ben Davies out and Danny Rose picking up an injury against Leicester.

Jan Vertonghen will play at left back and this duel could be key to the outcome of the match.

The Belgian expressed his happiness at filling in where he can for Spurs, and has played in this position many times for his national team.

Nevertheless, Dortmund may see Sancho as a player that can make things happen and even one away goal could shape this tie in the German sides favour.

Tottenham team news vs Borussia Dortmund

Harry Kane and Dele Alli have both returned to training but won’t be fit in time for Wednesday’s match. Ben Davies remains sidelined with a groin strain.

Spurs were expected to field three at the back, with Toby Alderweireld set to return to the starting eleven at the expense of Oliver Skipp.

However, Danny Rose has been ruled out by Mauricio Pochettino and will, at very best, be on the bench.

Fernanrdo Llorente is likely to lead the line although Lucas Moura gives Pochettino another option up front.

Erik Lamela missed out at the weekend with a back problem but could feature in midweek.

Eric Dier is another doubt due to a virus, but the England international returned to training on Tuesday.

Alderweireld, Lamela and Son are all one booking away from missing the return leg.

Borussia Dortmund team news vs Tottenham

Spurs are not the only side with key players missing.

Marco Reus suffered a small muscle tear in Dortmund’s recent Pokal game against Werder Bremen. The club captain could be available for the return leg at the Westfalenstadion.

Defender Manuel Akanji will also miss out, Omer Toprak should parter Abdou Diallo at the back.

Julian Weigl has been ruled out of the trip due to illness. Paco Alcacer is another key man missing from the Dortmund squad.

Thomas Delaney is expected to partner Axel Witsel in midfield.

Jadon Sancho is expected to start and due to the number of injuries so will Chelsea loanee Christian Pulisic most likely.
