Spurs v Stoke: Premier League preview
Tottenham will be looking to bounce back from midweek disappointment when they host Stoke at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were dumped out of the Europa League on Thursday following a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Genk.
Christian Eriksen and Victor Wanyama got their names on the scoresheet in the 2-2 draw which saw Dele Alli sent off for a horror challenge in the second half.
Although there’s no reason to panic, Spurs’ form has definitely dipped in recent weeks. Three wins in their last eight matches in all competitions, including just one in their last four, will give Stoke confidence.
Still, the North Londoners find themselves third in the table.
Stoke are 9th following their 1-0 win over Crystal Palace a fortnight ago. Having had a two-week break, Mark Hughes’ side should be feeling fresh and could use that to their advantage.
Spurs thrashed Stoke at the Bet365 Stadium 4-0 in the reverse fixture back in September, courtesy of goals from Heung-min Son (2), Harry Kane and Dele Alli.
Ben Davies is expected to start again at left-back as Danny Rose continues to miss out with a knee injury.
Erik Lamela is also ruled out once again with a groin problem.
Spurs lined up with three centre-halves in midweek but could revert to a standard back-four on Sunday.
Saido Berahino could start for the visitors. Once a target of Spurs’, the forward moved to Stoke in January.
Despite returning to training, Geoff Cameron and Jon Walters are fitness doubts for Sunday.
Glen Johnson and Xherdan Shqiri have returned from injury and are available for selection.
Goalkeeper Jack Butland and midfielder Stephen Ireland are long-term absentees.
