Tottenham to ‘prioritise’ Heung-Min Son’s new contract extension just 2 years after previous 5-year deal

Tottenham to ‘prioritise’ Heung-Min Son’s new contract extension just 2 years after previous 5-year deal

It takes two

The partnership of Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane has been one of the best of the season so far. With the creativity originating from the more unlikely of the two, Son has become a ferocious goal scorer for Tottenham.

4 goals against Southampton which were all set up by Kane was followed by 2 goals against Manchester United. Spurs beat United 6-1 is a commanding display in which Kane scored a brace.

Most recently, Son and Kane were at the centre of Tottenham’s 3-0 lead against West Ham. The South Korean scored inside a minute and a second Kane brace in as many games brought the score to a commanding figure. Whilst the Hammers miraculously came back, the blame could not be placed at the pair.

With Son’s tally in the Premier League sitting at 7 from 5, it is not beyond the realms of possibility to think a bigger club would make a move for the 28-year-old in the near future. Therefore ensuring Son’s long-term stay at the club should become a priority.

Acting fast

That priority appears to be a reality according to recent reports. Son signed his most recent 5-year-contract just 2 years ago. However, Spurs had one of the lowest wage bills before the loan arrival of Gareth Bale. Although, his wages are an anomaly amongst the team.

Therefore, with Son on a wage which could be superseded by one of Europe’s elite, it is smart of Spurs and Daniel Levy to ensure the South Korean is tied to a new, more attractive extension.

Son is likely to be rested for the midweek Europa League group stage fixture against Austrian side Linz ASK. Son had an injury concern early in the season and Jose Mourinho will be mindful with some favourable fixtures approaching to be cautious of overplaying the forward.

Spurs face Burnley away from home on Monday 26th October at 8pm.
