Tottenham team news vs Barcelona: Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen miss training

Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily struck by injuries over the past month and face the task of squaring up against FC Barcelona without a number of key players.

Mauricio Pochettino could be without both Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen for the Champions League clash with both players missing training on Tuesday.

Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen absent from training

Jan Vertonghen looks set to miss Spurs’ group stage game against FC Barcelona at Wembley this week, according to the Daily Mail.

The 31-year-old was withdrawn against Huddersfield Town with a hamstring injury on Saturday.

Vertonghen joins Michel Vorm, Dele Alli and Serge Aurier in players who will miss the clash.

Mousa Dembele was also substituted off at half-time with a knock and is a doubt for the game.

Christian Eriksen could also join the club’s list of growing absentees having missed Spurs’ training session this morning.

Although, the Telegraph reported on Monday afternoon that the North London club remain optimistic over Eriksen being fit to face the Spanish giants.

Hugo Lloris returns to training on Tuesday

Meanwhile, Hugo Lloris could return for the club’s second group stage game after being spotted in training.

Lloris has been sidelined since Spurs’ 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford with a hamstring problem.

The World Cup winner was part of Tottenham’s preparations for Barcelona on Tuesday morning.

Paulo Gazzaniga has stepped in, with Vorm also out injured, and has impressed in three performances.

However, Lloris’ return would more than likely end the Argentine goalkeeper’s spell in the line-up.
