Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen & Real Madrid

The January transfer window closed seven days ago, and it was another disappointment for Tottenham fans.

Spurs failed to sign any players in January, meaning that Tottenham have failed to add any new recruits in the last two windows.

At the same time, rumours have been swirling for months that Christian Eriksen may leave Spurs to join Real Madrid.

For the record, Barcelona have also been linked to Eriksen too.

Eriksen is out of contract at Tottenham in 2020.

At the end of November, Spanish paper Marca told their readers that Eriksen had a 250 million euro price tag.

However a couple of weeks ago Spanish daily AS claimed that Barcelona could sign Eriksen for between 50 and 75 million pounds.

Eriksen’s contract talks with Spurs

In the Times on Thursday, the following update has been published regarding Eriksen’s contract talks with Tottenham:

Eriksen will enter the final year of his contract in July and has attracted interest from several of the world’s biggest clubs, including Real Madrid.

Tottenham have been in contract talks with the 26-year-old since the end of last season but they are at an impasse and the club will not allow him to run down his deal and leave as a free agent the following summer. He could be worth more than £60 million.

Tottenham scout Leicester’s James Maddison

In a signal to Spurs fans that the Lillywhites are preparing for life after Eriksen, the Times announced that Leicester’s James Maddison is a possible replacement for the Dane in north London:

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for the possibility of Christian Eriksen leaving this summer and have watched James Maddison with a view to him replacing the Denmark midfielder.

The Foxes paid £22 million to sign 22-year-old Maddison from Norwich last summer.

Maddison is under contract at the King Power Stadium until 2023.

The Times claim that Leicester may be open to selling Maddison if they can double his price tag.

Other Tottenham transfer targets

The Times also outline Tottenham’s other recruitment plans for the summer.

The broadsheet states that Spurs are looking to sign a wide player and a centre-half in the off-season.

20-year-old QPR forward Eberechi Eze is named as one target for Spurs.

Sampdoria’s 22-year-old Danish defender Joachim Andersen is also linked with Tottenham.
