Mauricio Pochettino remains keen to strengthen his midfield having failed to do so over the summer.

Mousa Dembele is in the final 12 months of his contract and will soon need replacing.

Spurs missed out on signing Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish last month.

The North Londoners are now preparing to enter the market again to land Dembele’s replacement.

Ajax’s Frenkie de Jong is a player who Spurs are keen to sign.

The 21-year-old is rated very highly by many clubs on the continent and Tottenham are preparing to make their move.

Tottenham are also keen on Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell.

The 21-year-old has been on the radar of many big clubs over the last few years.

Chilwell was called-up to Gareth Southgate’s senior side over the weekend to replace Luke Shaw.

Spurs are keen on the player and are now tracking his progress.

However, the Telegraph understand that any move for Chilwell is likely to come next summer.
