Tottenham interested in Thomas Meunier & Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

Tottenham & Thomas Meunier

According to the Sunday Times, Tottenham are looking to sign 28-year-old Belgian defender Thomas Meunier.

Meunier is out of contract at PSG at the end of the season. The Sunday Times reveal:

Jose Mourinho has spoken to the Belgium player, 28, in an effort to persuade him to move to London.

The Tottenham head coach wants to offload Serge Aurier or Kyle Walker-Peters and sign a more reliable full back.

This season, Meunier has only played 16 Ligue 1 matches for PSG.

However, Spurs have a few challenges in getting the Meunier deal over the line.

The Telegraph have reported that Borussia Dortmund are also in the race to sign Meunier.

Moreover, Tottenham’s Daniel Levy has reservations over the deal. The Telegraph claim:

Levy had been reluctant to sign any player over the age of 25 over the past two transfer windows, as Tottenham attempted to bring the average age of their squad down.

Spurs are interested in signing Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

The Sunday Times also report that “Spurs have an interest in Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, the Southampton midfielder.”

24-year-old Højbjerg, who has made 28 appearances in the Premier League this season, is under contract at Southampton until 2021.

Højbjerg is the Southampton captain.

It’s unclear how much Spurs would have to pay Southampton for their Danish international.

Six players up for sale at Spurs

We’ve already mentioned that Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters are up for sale at Spurs.

The Sunday Times also believe that Jose Mourinho is keen on getting rid of four other players:

Tanguy Ndombele could also leave Tottenham a year after joining for a club-record fee of £55 million, along with the likes of Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Juan Foyth.
