Tottenham Hotspur are set to lose both academy talents Keanan Bennetts and Reo Griffiths this summer with the duo expected to join the growing list of young, English players heading to Germany, according to the Evening Standard.
Bennetts looks set to join Borussia Monchengladbach, whilst Griffiths has been linked with a move to Red Bull Leipzig as they both go in search of first-team football.
The news comes as a huge blow for Spurs, with both Bennetts and Griffiths two of the club’s most highly rated academy players.
Bennetts to Monchengladbach
Bennetts would join fellow countrymen Mandela Egbo and potentially Reece Oxford at Gladbach, with the German club hoping to complete a permanent deal for the West Ham United midfielder.
The Bundesliga have a growing contingent of young, English players, which also includes the likes of Ademola Lookman and Jadon Sancho – both who were rumoured as wildcards for Gareth Southgate’s England World Cup squad.
Bennetts is close to joining the list of players leaving Premier League clubs for Germany’s top-tier which would mean the North London club would be due a compensation fee.
The 19-year-old has been very impressive for Spurs’ youth teams last season having been directly involved in 18 goals in 32 appearances.
Griffiths’ Bundesliga move
Tottenham are understood to have high hopes for Griffiths and are keen to tie his future down by offering him a professional contract.
The 17-year-old finished last season as the Premier League Under-18’s top goal scorer netting 27 goals in 20 appearances.
However, Spurs’ former head of recruitment, Paul Mitchell is pushing to bring him to his new club RB Leipzig this summer and the player is now considering his options.
