Tottenham Hotspur engineering swap deal for “The little Cruyff” with Sevilla

Spurs moving in the shadows

According to trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur and Sevilla are in the process of finalising a mammoth swap deal that would see the Lilywhites land a player dubbed “the little Cruyff” by Spanish publication Marca.

The proposed deal would see Erik Lamela join the Spanish club, whist Bryan Gil would join Nuno Espirito Santo in north London. In addition to the services of the Argentine winger, Sevilla would receive 25 million euros plus additional add-ons, the details of which have not been disclosed.

It comes just hours after a deal for Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini is also reported to be close to a loan move to north London.

Bryan Gil last season

2020-21 proved to be something of a breakout campaign for the 20-year-old wideman. Loaned to La Liga minnows Eibar, he could not prevent comprehensive relegation, but was nonetheless the standout player in the side.

Appearing 29 times in the league, Gil returned four goals and three assists, but his performances were of a sufficient standard to earn him a call up to the Spanish national team, becoming the first-ever Eibar player to achieve this honour in the process.

Still only 20 years old, he is understandably raw in some areas, but his elite close control and the way he carries himself on the pitch has earned him lofty comparisons to footballing legend Johann Cruyff in Spain.

For Spurs fans, he represents an exciting attacking option as they look to strengthen in the wake of a disappointing campaign last time out.
