Tottenham fans demand sale of two players following Vitesse defeat

The Tottenham Hotspur faithful have taken to social media in their numbers on Thursday, to let their frustrations out on a pair of the club’s stars, after another disappointing night on the continent.

Wittek makes the difference

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men returned to action a short time ago.

After making it three wins on the trot courtesy of a 3-2 downing of Newcastle last weekend, the Lilywhites tonight made the trip to the Netherlands, for a Europa Conference League meeting with Eredivisie outfit Vitesse.

Upon the final whistle sounding at the GelreDome, though, Spurs were brought firmly back down to earth.

A weakened XI (though not so weak that it acted as an excuse for their performance) was ultimately put to the sword by a solitary goal, to guide Vitesse clear of Nuno and co. in the Group G table.

The evening’s telling moment was forthcoming just over ten minutes from time, when Maximilian Wittek lashed home a fine volleyed effort from the edge of the area:

‘Need to be sold’

In turn, on the back of the action coming to a close in the Netherlands, it should come as little surprise to hear that the Tottenham faithful have since been absolutely ruthless in taking aim at the club’s stars.

Even less of a shock, meanwhile, has been the identity of those singled out for the most widespread condemnation.

The players in question? Dele Alli and Harry Winks.

Both English midfielders were drafted into the visitors’ starting XI this evening, as Nuno attempted to afford his more prominent stars a much-needed rest.

To say that Alli and Winks went on to struggle, though, would be something of an understatement, sparking widespread calls on Thursday evening for both to be moved on at the earliest possible opportunity:
