Tottenham considering England trio as options to replace Hugo Lloris should he decide to leave

Tottenham considering England trio as options to replace Hugo Lloris should he decide to leave

Tottenham’s number one

According to reports in the Sun, Tottenham are weighing up three England goalkeepers as possible replacements for French World Cup winning captain Hugo Lloris, should he decide to leave north London.

Hugo Lloris has been a mainstay in the Spurs side since joining from Lyon for £11m back in 2012 and has played over 360 times for the club.

He has one year left on his contract and has been linked PSG and a return to his country of birth and his former manager Mauricio Pochettino. This summer might be the last chance for Spurs to cash in on him, should he decide to go home.

The article says the club are looking at Burnley’s Nick Pope, Manchester United’s Dean Henderson and West Brom’s Sam Johnstone.

All three are in Gareth Southgate’s current England squad for the upcoming games with San Marino, Albania and Poland.

Dean Henderson starred for Sheffield United last season but has been David de Gea’s back up for the majority of this season, even though he has played the last six games for the Red Devils.

His manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said back in November that the player wanted to stay when linked with a loan in the January transfer window, and his recent starts have likely strengthened those feelings.

He wants to be first choice at United and he may prove too difficult to land should he continue to start at United and they may be unwilling to sell to a competitor and if they do he won’t be cheap.

Therefore Pope and Johnstone might be seen as more cost-effective alternatives.

Nick Pope has enjoyed a fine couple of seasons and Sam Johnstone is earning plaudits despite playing in a side that looks set to be relegated. If they do go down, he may well want to stay in the Premier League and will likely be on a few clubs target lists.
