Tottenham boss Antonio Conte outlines what he loves about Harry Kane

Conte’s Tottenham get off to a shaky start

Antonio Conte joined Tottenham to a lot of fanfare three weeks ago, but has struggled in his opening stint.

A first-game 3-2 win over Vitesse was followed up with a drab 0-0 draw with Everton, in which his side failed to have a shot on target.

The Italian recorded his first league win over Leeds United, thanks to goals from Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and Sergio Reguilon, but was stung in the nastiest fashion in midweek.

They suffered a frankly shambolic 2-1 defeat to midtable Slovenian side NS Mura, leaving their chances of qualifying for the next round of the Europa Conference League hanging by a thread.

Now, they are looking to bounce back in the Premier League.

Conte reveals what he loves about Harry Kane

Ahead of the NS Mura clash, Conte sat down with Italian press Gazzetta Della Sport, to discuss his start to life at Tottenham among other things.

In particular, he was keen to stress the importance of Son and Kane, the duo that have kept Spurs afloat season upon season. Out of the two, it was Harry Kane that was saved for the highest praise, with Conte saying:

“I always say that an important player must have three qualities: to be strong, resistant and fast. Son has them all. Kane is an absolute value player. Not only of great class but also of great football intelligence,”

“Sacchi used to say that with players you either go by persuasion or you go by percussion. To some you have to repeat things a thousand times.

“With Kane, only one is enough, he stores it and immediately puts it into practice. Technically he is very strong, he manages to move in half a meter with the ball between his feet and the man on him, already knowing where the goalkeeper is and if he has to kick on the first or second post. He sees the opening as few do.”

The Italian continued:

“He wants to win with this shirt, my aim is to help him make his dream come true, but in general, the best thing for a coach is to be told at the end of the season: ‘thanks Mister I have improved with you’.

“Kane is already a champion but I would like to be able to add one, two or three percent more to what he has.”

Will he be able to help rediscover Harry Kane’s top form after a woeful start to the season, or has that ship sailed?
