The best Brentford picks of FPL 2021/22
Brentford are set to play Premier League football for the first time in their history in 2021/22.
The Bees have been one of the Championship’s top teams for several years and finally secured promotion last campaign. But how will they fare in the top-flight?
Newly promoted sides can be game-changers on Fantasy Premier League, with a number of Leeds stars quickly becoming FPL favourites in their debut season in 2020/21.
But what type of team will Brentford be and who are their best FPL assets?
Based on their style of football in the Championship, it is probably not the best decision to select any defensive assets early on in the season.
However, they do have a number of potentially intriguing midfield and forward options for your side.
Ivan Toney, forward (6.5m)
The first of these is Ivan Toney, who was the top-scorer in the Championship last season.
Toney finished the campaign having netted 31 and assisted 10 in 45 league games, as well as two in 3 Championship play-off games.
Such a return suggests that Toney could be a very solid budget forward option for you team, especially if you plan to start all three of your forwards.
The Bees also have a decent opening to their season, facing off with Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Wolves. So if there is ever a time to take a punt on Toney, the first few game weeks are probably it.
Bryan Mbeumo, midfielder (5.5m)
Next up is another fairly attacking option, Bryan Mbeumo.
Mbeumo would spend most of 2020/21 as Brentford’s main right-winger.
However, he was also occasionally used as a partner to Toney up front in a 3-5-2. And if a similar system is used on a more regular basis by Brentford in the Premier League, that may make Mbeumo a great out-of-position option.
Even if he is just deployed as a right-winger though, Mbeumo – who scored eight and assisted 11 last campaign – could still be a decent budget midfield option at just 5.5m.
Sergi Canos, midfielder (5.5m)
The final player you may wish to sign from Brentford is Sergi Canos.
Canos is a natural winger who can operate on both the left and right, with the former his preferred position.
And whilst he is not generally used up top like Mbeumo, Canos could still be one to watch this year as he is a regular contributor of both goals and assists. He scored nine and assisted nine in 2020/21.
