Yesterday, West Ham United midfielder and Czech Republic international conducted an interview in which a number of comments garnered a great amount of criticism.
The interview, which was translated into English across multiple media outlets, details the midfielder’s surprise at the ban handed to Ondrej Kudela of Slavia Prague.
Kudela was given a 10 game UEFA ban having been found guilty of racially abusing Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara.

Soucek said he couldn’t ‘imagine him saying anything racist.’
“Of course, everyone was asking me how it went, what words were uttered,” he said.
“I fight for Ondra (Kudela) all the time. I believe that he did not tell him anything racist, there was no evidence.
“But a lot of people on the islands (the UK) condemned him and he received a severe sentence from the disciplinary committee for ten matches.
“I find it absurd. I know him so well and I can’t imagine him saying anything racist. I also tried to convince the boys in the locker room about that.”
This saw a lot of social media backlash towards the Hammers midfielder.
Soucek claims comments ‘out of context’
Tomas Soucek took to Twitter to say that the interview comments were ‘out of context’ and that he is ‘against racism.’
‘My comments in a recent interview I did in the Czech Republic didn’t come across how I meant them, they were out of context and have been misunderstood. I am against racism in any form and am proud to play in a sport that is so diverse and inclusive.’
