Tomas Soucek backs West Ham to continue Champions League fight despite injury issues

Tomas Soucek backs West Ham to continue Champions League fight despite injury issues

West Ham see off Leicester

West Ham faced off with Leicester City on Sunday, in what was a huge clash in the race for the Premier League top-four.

The Hammers slipped out of the Champions League places earlier in the weekend, due to results elsewhere.

However, they have now climbed back above Chelsea and up into 4th, after an impressive 3-2 win over Leicester.

A Jesse Lingard brace, followed by Jarrod Bowen’s strike, proved enough to ensure that Kelechi Iheanacho’s late double was not enough to rescue a point for Brendan Rodgers and co.

Soucek on West Ham’s injuries

But whilst the Londoners are now in a decent possession ahead of the business end of the campaign, all is far from rosy in their camp.

David Moyes has a number of injury issues to deal with. Michail Antonio, Declan Rice and Angelo Ogbonna all missed Sunday’s game with fitness problems.

Then, during the game at the London Stadium, Aaron Cresswell limped off.

However, speaking to the Evening Standard on Monday, Tomas Soucek assured that West Ham are more than ready to fight for Champions League football, despite their recent personnel woes:

“Yes many injuries, but it is football. We’ve lost Declan, Angelo and we don’t know how many injuries from yesterday.

“We don’t have [Andriy] Yarmolenko or [Manuel] Lanzini but I hope that they will be ready soon.

“It is great that we don’t only have 10 or 11 players. We have a great team and a great spirit in the changing room, we have more than 20 great footballers so it is very good that we don’t only play with these 10 players. We can be ready with 20 or more players.”
