Toby Alderweireld wants Manchester United move

Man United

Manchester United are in pole position to land Toby Alderweireld.

That’s according to the Mirror, who think that the Tottenham Hotspur star wants to move to Old Trafford, and is even willing to wait until he can make the move on a free transfer in order to do so.

Spurs are standing somewhat firm on the contract situation between player and club, and are hesitant to sell to a Premier League rival, yet the Belgian centre back is desperate join Jose Mourinho – and will make sure he’s able to, either this summer or the one afterwards.

Even if Spurs decided to trigger the one year extension deal in the player’s contract, they would be leaving themselves open to Alderweireld leaving for £25 million during a two week period in that same summer – something they would not want to see given their high valuation of the player.

Fitness

The player himself has remained quiet on any potential move, and just made it clear that the number one priority for him is to make sure he’s fit.

Alderweireld noted that he needs to get back to the best condition possible, after suffering from injury and fitness issues last season, and that he will be going back to Spurs for the meantime at least, in order to do that.

He added that this summer has been spent working on his condition, and that being fit is the number one aim.

“This weekend I am just going back to London because then the preparation starts at my club,” he told HLN Sport.

“I have been working on my condition for a while because I want to be as fit as I can be.”
