Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has been talking about his Spurs future this week and it’s positive news for the London side.
That is because the player has been talking about the special relationship that he and fellow defender Jan Vertonghen.
The pair have both previously played for Ajax and have become one of, if not the best partnership in the Premier League.
Not only that, their impressive performances continue in the Champions League in which the side have won all their games so far.
They do face Real Madrid next in what will be a massive test for both Alderweireld and Vertonghen.
Though, it looks as though their relationship will be key to stop Alderweireld actually leaving the club.
There had been talk in the past of moving on from Spurs and potentially moving to one of the top European clubs but Alderweireld has eased Spurs minds.
“It’s difficult for me to play without Jan(Vertonghen),” he explained.
“In addition, he still has a good year ahead of him in the Devils [Belgium], and as time goes by we have become true friends.”
“If I move to another club, he will have to follow me.”
While some could see the last sentence as more of a negative factor, the likelihood of both players signing for one club is slim.
So for now, Tottenham are safe with their extremely talented partnership at the back.
That Alderweireld assist though
