Will he stay or will he go?
Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has spoken out on his future amid his current contract situation at the London club.
The Belgian has been linked with a move away from the club for probably the best part of a year now.
His contract is set to expire in the summer and he was widely expected to leave Spurs in the previous summer window.
Manchester United were the club most closely linked with a move but nothing materialised.
That has since seen Alderweireld be given another chance in the starting line-up under Mauricio Pochettino.
Though, his future is yet to be resolved and that could lead to even more uncertainty when the January transfer window comes around.
Now, he’s been speaking about his future on international duty and has hinted that he is happy at Tottenham.
“We shall see”
The quotes come from the Evening Standard, with the player away on international duty with Belgium.
They claim when he was asked about his contract situation, he responded: “Honestly, I am absolutely not thinking about it at the moment.
“I feel good, play a lot right now and, therefore, am happy. We shall see.”
The Evening Standard also claimed in their report that Tottenham have the option to extend Alderweireld’s contract by another year.
Though, should they do that, his contract would then have a £25million release clause within the final two weeks of a transfer window.
Safe to say, despite Alderweireld’s comments, his future is far from certain.
