Toby Alderweireld set to join Man United or Barcelona

Toby Alderweireld & Tottenham

It’s deja vu for Tottenham fans on Thursday amid reports that Toby Alderweireld could be about to leave Spurs.

Alderweireld’s future in north London has been in doubt for some time.

Alderweireld is under contract at Tottenham until 2020.

Back in January Spurs exercised an option to extend Alderweireld’s contract by 12 months, but the club could risk losing the centre-half for around £25m in the summer due to a get-out clause in the Belgian’s deal.

Last summer rumours were rife that Alderweireld could join Man United.

Today those rumours are back.

Man United vs Barcelona

The Mirror claim that Alderweireld is a goner at Tottenham.

Spurs are “resigned to losing” the centre-half at the end of the season. The Mirror add:

United are set to push their way to the front of the queue for 30-year-old Alderweireld with Juventus and Barcelona also keen.

Spurs will have no option but to sell with just a year remaining of Alderweireld’s contract.

The Mirror further claim that Eric Bailly could leave Old Trafford this summer.

Will Alderweireld really join Man United?

After Tottenham’s recent Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund, Alderweireld gave an interesting interview to the Evening Standard.

The Belgian was roped into discussing the impact of club’s move into their new ground. He said:

Even if we’ve never played there, it’s going to be our home.

We did well at Wembley but to make it our home was difficult. Sometimes the stadium wasn’t full because there was a maximum [attendance cap] as well. The new stadium will be massive for us.

In the north London derby, even at Wembley, the atmosphere was incredible. Imagine that atmosphere at the new stadium. There will be no club in the world like this.

Does that sound like a player who is looking to leave Tottenham anytime soon?
