Ajax return on the cards for Alderweireld
Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has claimed that he would be open to a return to former club Ajax in the future.
The Belgian defender joined Spurs from Atletico Madrid back in 2015 following a loan to fellow Premier League side Southampton.
The player has since gone on to be one of the best central defenders in the league, though has struggled with game time over the past 12 months or so.
There have been huge question marks over his future and he was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United over the summer.
That move never materialised and he has now returned to the first team.
‘I have a bond with the club, because I played football at Ajax for eight years, achieving championships’
Now, he’s been speaking about his future but a bit more down the line.
‘Never say never,’ Alderweireld explained to De Telegraaf.
‘At this moment in my career I don’t think about that yet. I think I can go on for years at this level. If I ever did, it is not to take it easy.
‘I do not want to be 36 years old and can hardly walk. When I return, I certainly want to leave something. And not only in the dressing room.
‘Of course it is close to home in Belgium and I have a bond with the club, because I played football at Ajax for eight years, achieving championships.’
