Tiemoue Bakayoko likely to return to Chelsea this summer – Fabrizio Romano

Bakayoko’s Italian stint

Tiemoue Bakayoko moved to AC Milan on a season-long loan from Chelsea last summer.

Milan are said to have an option to buy the Frenchman for a fee of around £35.6m, according to Sky Sports News.

Bakayoko has made 40 appearances across all competitions for the Serie A outfit, in which he has scored one and assisted one.

However, despite having impressed throughout much of the season, Bakayoko’s stint in Italy hasn’t been without its controversies.

AC Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso has been openly critical of him this season.

The pair also had a fairly public spat earlier this month when Gattuso asked Bakayoko to warm up:

“I told Bakayoko to warm up, he took his time and I chose Mauri.

“I have 27 players, we wear a glorious shirt and I must be objective and honest in everything I do. I waited seven or eight minutes, he still had not put on his shin pads so I made that choice.

“The most important thing is Milan, not these things.” As quoted by the Independent.

Now, reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, writing for calciomercatio.com, has stated that Milan do not wish to exercise their option to buy Bakayoko this summer.

Does Bakayoko have a Chelsea future?

With Bakayoko now looking likely to be returning to Stamford Bridge this summer, the question of whether he will still be a Blues’ player come the start of the 2019/20 season remains.

The arrival of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic last summer meant that Bakayoko was pretty far down the Chelsea midfielder pecking order.

Now, it is being reported that Chelsea are looking to sign Kovacic on a permanent basis.

If Chelsea do sign the Real Madrid midfielder, they will have him, Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Ethan Ampadu and Bakayoko all capable of filling the same role.
