Man United v Benfica
Tuesday could be another excellent night for Manchester United.
Portuguese champs Benfica arrive to Old Trafford this week in the Champions League.
A fortnight ago the sides met in Iberia. Marcus Rashford’s free-kick earned the Red Devils a big 1-0 away win.
United are now within touching distance of being in the Champions League last 16.
Manchester United will qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League if they beat Benfica and CSKA Moscow fail to beat Basel.
If Jose Mourinho’s side draw, CSKA need to lose for United to qualify.
If Basel and Man United both win tonight, the Swiss side will also advance.
Three Man United stars go missing
Man United’s stars all met up on Monday night at the Lowry Hotel before the Benfica game.
However, as confirmed by the Manchester Evening News, three Red Devils were nowhere to be seen. Readers were told:
Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia were not spotted among the United squad members who were ferried to the hotel on the team coach.
Jones has not played in a midweek match this term and Valencia’s only cup appearance was at Benfica two weeks ago.
United face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday before the November internationals and the likelihood is Jose Mourinho will rest the pair ahead of the capital fixture.
Daley Blind was not clocked by M.E.N. photographers as United players arrived at The Lowry but the Dutchman lives nearby and tends to rendezvous at the Manchester city centre hotel separately.
Luke Shaw to start?
The Manchester Evening News also noticed how Luke Shaw, who was omitted from the United matchday squad against Tottenham last weekend, is in line to start against Benfica.
Axel Tuanzebe, who was also forced to watch the Spurs match on TV, could also get more minutes for United in the Champions League this week.
