Thiago Silva responds to Chelsea dismissal vs West Brom: ‘I assume responsibility…’

Chelsea star Thiago Silva has taken to social media this evening, to respond to his costly sending off during the club’s meeting with West Bromwich Albion.

Baggies shock the masses

Thomas Tuchel’s men were of course back in action this afternoon.

In their first outing on the back of the international break, the Blues welcomed relegation-battling West Brom to Stamford Bridge, for a Premier League showdown.

Chelsea headed into proceedings as overwhelming favourites to bag all 3 points, having looked a side reborn since Tuchel’s arrival on the club’s bench back in January.

When all was said and done in west London on Saturday, though, to say that the hosts were brought back down to earth would be putting it lightly.

A remarkable 90 minutes of action eventually saw West Brom emerge on the right side of a shock 5-2 scoreline.

After Chelsea took the lead through Christian Pulisic inside half an hour, goals from all of Matheus Pereira (2), Callum Robinson (2) and Mbaye Diagne turned the clash completely on its head, as Sam Allardyce’s Baggies secured just their 4th win of the Premier League season.

‘Time to join forces’

Whilst, when all was said and done this afternoon, there was no real excuse for Chelsea falling to such a comprehensive defeat at the hands of a relegation battling outfit, it must be noted that the clash essentially turned on one telling moment during the first-half at the Bridge.

The incident in question came when the returning Thiago Silva, who of course also endured a nightmare 90 minutes in the reverse fixture at the Hawthorns back in September, was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence.

Many were of the opinion that the Brazilian was not lucky to have been dismissed even earlier, amid a tumultuous all-round evening for one of European football’s most decorated defenders.

And, as outlined above, on the back of his latest costly mistake, Silva himself has since taken to social media.

In a direct response to his sending off versus West Brom, the former PSG man admitted that, whilst he felt the red card was a harsh one, he nevertheless ‘assumes responsibility’ for the incident.

Silva then went on to issue a rallying call to the rest of the Chelsea squad, ahead of the club’s return to Champions League action next Wednesday:
