Thiago expected to be out for a ‘few weeks’ as Klopp clarifies Spaniard’s injury / Alexander-Arnold closing on return
Thiago update
Jurgen Klopp addressed the media ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Ajax in the Champions League. The German coach was asked about Thiago Alcantara’s fitness and why he had not yet returned after what appeared a minor injury in the Merseyside derby.
“Thiago we have to maybe clarify it a little bit. On that day when Thiago got injured in that challenge in the Everton game, there was another bad injury and after the scans it was like one was really bad news and the other one was really good news because nothing was broken, nothing was ruptured and stuff like this,” said Klopp
“But, as we realise now, it was still a massive impact on the knee. The problem is in a situation like that, nothing is ruptured and nothing is broken and that means everybody thinks, ÓK, you can go after a few days’, but the impact on the leg was that big that it is still not OK.
“It is not massive and he trains from time to time, not in the moment because we just have to realise that we have to go a few further steps. I can’t say exactly when he will be fine, but it will take a few weeks still with Thiago.”
Jurgen Klopp reveals that Thiago Alcantara is still “a few weeks” away from a full recovery. Has been training “from time to time” but is still feeling pain in his knee from the challenge he suffered in the Merseyside derby.

Liverpool’s injury issues have plagued them all season, Klopp did confirm that Henderson is back and fit after coming off the bench against Brighton in the 1-1 draw on the south coast. The England international will likely start at Anfield on Tuesday.
Liverpool must avoid defeat to risk dropping to third in the group after their 2-0 home loss to Atalanta.
Alexander-Arnold Closing
In more positive news for Liverpool fans, Klopp did confirm that Trent Alexander-Arnold is closing in on his return to first-team action. This will come as a major boost after Neco Williams had a difficult time against Brighton and James Milner was forced off with a hamstring injury.
The German coach also confirmed that Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita are getting closer.
“They are all getting closer. With Naby we have to check still. With the other two [Shaqiri & Alexander-Arnold], they will not be ready.”
“Trent looks quite good. Nobody gave me green light for tonight so he will not train with the team. He has been outside doing his rehab stuff, that looks really good. But from what I saw today, it will not be that long anymore with Trent,” said Klopp.

Liverpool’s match against Ajax is followed up with a tough match against Wolves and Klopp will be hoping the Reds can maintain their top of the table points total.
