Viewers of the clash between Bournemouth and Tottenham have taken to social media in numbers this afternoon, to take aim at referee Craig Pawson.

Ake decides it late

Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs travelled to the Vitality Stadium a short time ago, for their penultimate Premier League outing.

The North Londoners headed into proceedings aware that a victory would see them secure Champions League football for next season.

Tottenham, though, were not exactly in the greatest of form coming into the clash, with the capital giants having fallen to consecutive defeats over the last week, first to West Ham in the Premier League, and then to Ajax in the Champions League.

And Tottenham’s struggles subsequently carried into proceedings this afternoon.

A baffling 90 minutes at the Vitality eventually saw Mauricio Pochettino’s 9 men put to the sword by a goal to nil.

After Eric Dier was lucky to escape a second yellow early on, Spurs were nevertheless soon a man down, as Heung-min Son was given his marching orders for lashing out at Jefferson Lerma shortly before the interval.

And, incredibly, just moments after the restart, Juan Foyth, who had been introduced as a half-time substitute, was also sent for an early bath for a dangerous lunge.

Bournemouth largely-struggled to take advantage of their 2 extra men as the clash rumbled on, but, just when it looked as though Spurs were set to escape with a potentially-crucial point, Nathan Ake rose highest from a Ryan Fraser corner to nod home an injury-time winner.

Pawson targeted

Unsurprisingly, much of the talk throughout the 90 minutes this afternoon surrounded the performance of referee Craig Pawson.

The English official was forced into a number of high-profile decisions at the Vitality, amid penalty shouts, red cards and general controversy throughout proceedings.

However, many viewers of the clash were of the opinion that Pawson actually got the majority of the major decisions wrong this afternoon.

As showcased below, some felt that one or both of the red cards handed out were overly-harsh, while almost all were in agreement that Eric Dier should undoubtedly have been given his marching orders early on.
