The problem Mesut Ozil has for Germany and Arsenal revealed

Germany were so poor in their opening game people are actually starting to question if they will get out of their group – and it seems that they could well struggle this summer in Russia.

The performance by Mexico was brilliant, and without taking anything away from that, it certainly needs to be noted that the Germans were poor – and some players were worse than others, with Shaka Hislop noting that Mesut Ozil is struggling for Germany much like he does for Arsenal.

“It was concerning for me how inept Germany were, in particular certain individuals,” The Express report Hislop said.

“Sami Khedira, for me, was simply awful in midfield.

“When you see the likes of Carlos Vela able to pick the ball up 10 yards outside his own box and simply run past the entire German midfield.

“Toni Kroos, that’s not his job, I don’t think he did a good enough job of breaking things up before that.

“And then Mesut Ozil, the player you’re looking too to unlock a packed defence, went missing.

“It has been our complaint about him at club level for quite some time.”

After the shock in the opening game, there are some serious questions being asked about Germany and they have to win their next game if they want to get out of their group.

The last two World Cup winners have seen their trophy defence fall flat, and Germany will certainly be hoping the same thing doesn’t apply to them.

The decision to leave Leroy Sane at home has also come under fire, and it seems that the Germans may come to regret that.
