War for Kroos

If you thought that the Manchester giants were going to tighten their purse strings after an expensive summer then think again. Mundo Deportivo claims they’re ready to ‘go to war’ to sign a midfielder: Real Madrid star Toni Kroos. Things have been civil between Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola thus far. That’s all about to change.

Europe’s best

Both managers see Kroos as the ideal ball-playing midfielder in the centre of the park. He actually played under Guardiola for a season at Bayern Munich before leaving for Madrid in 2014. Whether that indicates that he didn’t enjoy working with Guardiola is unclear. A World Cup winner with Germany, the 26-year-old is one of the best midfielders in Europe.

Which begs the question: Why would Madrid sell? The Champions League holders have a talented array of midfielders but Kroos is one of the very best. The midfield combination of Kroos and Modric has been very successful. His current Madrid contract expires in 2020. They’re reportedly trying to renew that deal.Mundo Deportivo
