The latest word on Mauricio Pochettino spells good news for Manchester United fans

Manchester United part ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

The news that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was relieved of his Manchester United duties broke on Sunday morning, prompting speculation about a whole range of potential replacements to take the Old Trafford hot-seat.

After a 4-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road, the hierarchy decided that it was too poor a result and run of results for the club to sustain the current managerial setup, and that change had to be made.

Currently, the role is in the hands of caretaker boss Michael Carrick, who will oversee their trip to Spain to take on Villareal in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

However, this is unlikely to last too long, with replacements already being considered, and one man on the radar a familiar face to the Premier League.

Positive noises out of France about Mauricio Pochettino

That man is, of course, Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine spent five years with Tottenham, getting them to a Champions League final in the process, and is currently in charge of Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint Germain.

However, he may not be for long. As per a report from BBC Sport covered by 101 earlier today, he is open to the prospect of leaving the French giants for the Red Devils, should they come knocking, despite having Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe all at his disposal in the French capital.

And now, as per French outlet FootMercarto, things have heated up further. They report that the club are already in contact with Poch, who is ready to leave mid-season.

However, they are quick to stress that, as of yet, he has not officially requested to leave.

Should he depart, it is widely assumed PSG will make a move for Zinedine Zidane, the former Real Madrid manager.

Would this be the best appointment Manchester United could make?
