Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp this afternoon provided a fitness update on his squad, ahead of the Reds’ return to Premier League action this weekend.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
The European champions are set to to visit Selhurst Park tomorrow afternoon, for a clash with Crystal Palace.
Liverpool will head into proceedings sitting pretty atop the Premier League table.
To this point in the campaign, the Merseyside giants have racked up an incredible 11 wins and a draw from their 12 league outings.
Their latest 3-point haul came two weeks ago, prior to the international break, when Klopp’s men downed champions Manchester City by 3 goals to 1.
This sees Liverpool enter the weekend’s action a hefty 8 points clear of both Leicester and Chelsea, and a further point clear of Man City.
And, with Chelsea and City set to face off on Sunday evening, a positive result for Liverpool tomorrow would see the Reds extend their advantage over one of their title rivals even further.
Mixed Reds team news
As such, speaking ahead of what could prove another pivotal weekend of Premier League action, Jurgen Klopp this afternoon provided an update on his squad.
Doubts over the potential involvement of a number of the club’s stars versus Palace have been circulating in the media over the course of the week, with Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson having been struggling with respective ankle problems, and Virgil van Dijk having returned early from international duty for personal reasons.
Dutch stopper van Dijk, though, is fully fit and available:
‘Virgil is 100 per cent available,’ Klopp explained to the media.
‘But it’s the time of the year when players get out of the squad overnight, unfortunately, with some other things – getting sick or ill or whatever.’
This led onto updates regarding aforementioned duo Salah and Robertson, and defender Joel Matip.
In less positive news for the Merseysiders, though, all 3 remain in doubt to feature at Selhurst Park:
‘From the others, I cannot say 100 per cent. I don’t know 100 per cent. Today [Friday] is a very important session to judge that, especially with the players who came back late.’
As per Liverpool’s official website:
‘The Reds must check on the fitness of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Joel Matip.’
