The latest on Thomas Partey’s fitness ahead of Anfield clash

Arsenal face Liverpool at Anfield in four days

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal face their toughest test of the season thus far this weekend, as they look to stretch their unbeaten run to 11 games in heading to Anfield to take on Liverpool.

The Gunners have been in impressive form in recent weeks, but have only really seen stiff opposition from Leicester City at the King Power, eventually dispatching of the Foxes comfortably. Liverpool, however, will be an entirely different prospect.

The Reds have been hit by a raft of injuries of late, with Andrew Robertson, Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson all dealt blows whilst on international duty. The latter two have since returned, while Robertson remains “50-50” for the weekend tie.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have come through a scare of their own, as captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was left out of Gabon’s second game of the break, sparking fears of a potential injury. However, it has since emerged that he simply flew back to be with Arsenal early.

The latest on Thomas Partey

One man whom the Arsenal faithful do remain sweating on, however, is midfielder Thomas Partey. The Ghanaian missed the clash with Watford through a groin strain, and has since missed international games for Ghana, too, as he races to be fit for the Anfield trip.

With Granit Xhaka already out until the new year with a knee injury, he is Arsenal’s most senior, and accomplished, midfield option, and is quite literally a game-changer for Mikel Arteta.

But will he be fit?

There is good news on that front. As per Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent at Goal:

“As far as I’m aware, all parties are hopeful that he could be involved on Saturday”

He continued:

“As it stands, fingers-crossed, it is looking like he’s winning his fitness battle to play at Anfield”.

While it may not be the definitive news that all Arsenal fans are looking for, it is certainly a promising step in the right direction, and everyone in north London will be hoping it remains that way.
