An update on the fitness of Chelsea youngster Reece James has emerged online this evening, after he was one of three members of Aidy Boothroyd’s England U21 squad forced to return to his club due to injury.
Young Lions’ road ahead
Boothroyd’s men are set to get their European qualifying campaign back underway next week.
England’s U21 outfit will welcome their Austrian equivalents to Stadium MK on Tuesday night, for their 3rd Euro qualifier.
As things stands, the Young Lions are sitting pretty atop the Group A table, albeit alongside their upcoming opponents.
Both sides have won their 2 respective outings to this point in the campaign, with Kosovo also on 6 points, having played a game more.
As such, next week’s matchup is set to mark a crucial one regarding England’s hopes of clinching Group A’s top spot.
In a major blow to the prospects of Boothroyd and co. this evening, however, it has been confirmed that a trio of the country’s stars have been forced to return to their respective clubs, after picking up injury problems.
The individuals in question are Chelsea pair Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah (currently on loan at Huddersfield), and Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell.
James’ issue comes as the most high-profile, with the Blues stopper having only recently worked his way into the first-team setup at Stamford Bridge, after missing the early weeks of the campaign through injury.
The 19-year-old’s latest problem, meanwhile, is with his ankle.
However, as per reliable Chelsea reporter Nizaar Kinsella, fans of the capital giants need not fret. James is expected to return to training with Frank Lampard’s squad next week.
