The latest on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s position in charge of “confused and divided” Manchester United side

The latest on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s position in charge of “confused and divided” Manchester United side

Ole and Manchester United humiliated by Liverpool

Manchester United were provided with a severe lesson in just where they stand in English football at present as a rampant Liverpool put five past David De Gea at Old Trafford on Sunday.

It could well have been more too, had the Merseyside outfit not taken their foot of the Red Devils’ throats half an hour from time. By that point, of course, the damage had already been done.

Mo Salah netted a hat-trick, while Naby Keita and Diogo Jota added two more against a Manchester United side that was cut open time and time again in front of a restless and angry home crowd, many of whom left well before the final whistle.

While Solskjaer has reiterated that he has no plans to quit his job, the decision may be taken out of his hands should they fail to pick up points, and turn in performances, in their next two fixtures against Tottenham and Manchester City.

Ole “safe for now”

Now, as per the Athletic, Solskjaer will be given a chance to save his job, and is expected to be in the dugout for their clash with Tottenham on Saturday.

They will, of course, have longer than the Lilywhites to prepare for the fixture courtesy of being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by West Ham in the last round.

All is far from rosy, however, as per the report, “the dressing room likes Ole but many feel he should now go”. With one point from four games in the league thus far, and Tottenham and Manchester City to come, it does feel as though the writing is on the wall for Ole.

He will, at the very least, cling on until the weekend though.
