The latest on Man City pair De Bruyne & Sane ahead of Burnley

Updates on the fitness of Manchester City pair Leroy Sane and Kevin De Bruyne have emerged online this evening, ahead of the club’s meeting with Burnley.

City host Burnley

Pep Guardiola’s men are set to return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon, in a meeting with the Clarets.

City will head into proceedings in search of a bounce-back result, having been downed by city neighbours United in the Manchester Derby last weekend, before seeing their scheduled meeting with Arsenal on Wednesday night postponed due to fears over the spread of the coronavirus.

The Citizens’ plans for Saturday, though, may well also have altered over the last couple of hours.

This comes after it was announced that the planned Champions League last-16 2nd-leg meeting between City and Real Madrid next Tuesday has also been called off:

As such, Pep Guardiola may opt against resting his star men, with the Spaniard no doubt keen to keep as many key members of his squad as possible match-fit.

City boosts

And, as outlined above, updates on the fitness of a pair of Sky Blues stars have this evening been forthcoming online.

The players in question are Leroy Sane and Kevin De Bruyne.

German wide-man Sane has not made a single appearance for City since tearing his ACL in a Community Shield meeting with Liverpool last August.

De Bruyne, meanwhile, has been suffering with a shoulder issue of late, and was sorely missed in his side’s Manchester Derby defeat last weekend.

In a boost to the prospects of Guardiola’s men versus Burnley in 48 hours’ time, though, positive news has been forthcoming on the fitness of both the Belgian and Sane.

As revealed by the reliable Manchester Evening News, the two City stars ‘took full part’ in an 11 vs 11 training match last night.

The matchup came as a replacement-of-sorts for the Citizens’ postponed meeting with Arsenal, with De Bruyne and Sane having come through unscathed.

As such, both are expected to be available for selection on Saturday.
