The latest on Dominic Calvert-Lewin ahead of Everton’s meeting with Arsenal

Everton vs Arsenal

The final Premier League fixture of gameweek 15 will see Everton play host to Arsenal at Goodison Park.

The game looks a must-win for the former and, in particular, Rafa Benitez.

Everton enjoyed a fine start to the campaign, but have since dipped off massively. The Toffees have lost four and drawn one of their last five PL games, and slipped down to 14th.

Should this poor form continue, Everton, who are now only five points above 18th, risk being sucked into a relegation battle.

And, after a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby, it is safe to assume that another loss or two in a row could prove fatal for Benitez’s hitherto short Everton career.

Arsenal, though, are expected to prove a tough nut to crack.

The Gunners’ record against the Premier League’s top sides this term has been woeful. But, barring a 2-0 loss at the hands of Brentford on the opening weekend, Arsenal have not fallen to defeat against a non ‘top-six’ side in 2021/22.

Rafa Benitez delivers concerning Calvert-Lewin update

Ahead of the Arsenal game, Rafa Benitez would hold his pre-match press conference on Friday.

And, when doing so, the Spaniard provided an injury update on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

If there is one man who could turn the Merseysiders’ season around, it is their top-scorer from 2020/21.

But, this afternoon, Benitez confirmed that it will likely be at least a couple of weeks before Calvert-Lewin can return to the pitch. The Spaniard also provided fitness updates on Yerry Mina, Salomon Rondon and Tom Davies:

“Yerry Mina has done part of training session so we will see in next couple of days. We have to wait on scan for Rondon. We are missing Dominic and Tom Davies. Still a couple of weeks minimum”
